Our Story

Our Story – Beginning

Swargadhamam was born from pain, shock, and a deep sense of responsibility. Before this place existed, the Hindu burial ground in Nandyal near the RTC bus station was little more than an open patch of land where families struggled to give their loved ones a dignified farewell. During rains, the ground turned into slush, pyres could not be lit properly, and grieving relatives stood helpless under umbrellas or makeshift plastic sheets.

Our Story – The Struggle

For years, the people of Nandyal silently accepted these conditions, even as they watched stray animals wander near half-burnt pyres and families forced to leave quickly because there was no safe, clean space to sit through the final rites. The situation became unbearable during the first wave of COVID-19, when more bodies started coming in and many were not even given decent final rites due to fear, lack of space, and complete absence of proper facilities.

Community Action

They began by visiting modern crematoriums and burial grounds in other parts of India, including those built by large foundations, to understand what a truly humane facility should look like. With this learning, they prepared a blueprint for Nandyal’s own dignified cremation space: a place that would protect families from sun and rain, offer clean washrooms, waiting lounges, ash collection points, ritual shelters, and most importantly, an atmosphere of peace instead of fear or disgust.

Construction & Challenges

What emerged from this struggle is Swargadhamam — a modern, ultra-clean cremation facility, with separate waiting lounges, ultra-modern washrooms, cremation park, paved walkways, ash collection points, shelters for rituals, and all-weather infrastructure that allows cremations even during heavy rain. Almost 80% of the space has been turned into a green belt with hundreds of trees and saplings, including around 400 planted in memory of legendary singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam.

Swargadhamam Today

Today, Swargadhamam is ISO 9001:2015 certified for its quality systems and offers cremation services at an affordable cost of just ₹750, so that even the poorest families can access dignified last rites without fear of exploitation or humiliation. What was once a place of neglect and discomfort has become a calm, green, organized space where families can cry, remember, and let go in peace.
